We give thanks to God for the life and legacy of the visionary and founder of Youth Mentoring Ministry, our beloved Delpha Dyer, affectionately known to us all as Sister Del, a faithful servant whose heart for others was evident in every season of her life.
Del was a woman of deep faith, compassion, and unwavering commitment to service. Her life was a testimony to the truth that those who walk in full dependence on the Lord can leave a powerful and lasting impact on the world around them.
Del became a registered nurse in 1967 and a registered midwife in 1975, faithfully serving in the healing profession for many decades. In 1988, she emigrated to Canada, where she continued to live out her calling as a nurse until her retirement at the age of 60.
But retirement was not the end—it was the beginning of a new assignment from the Lord. With a heart burdened for the next generation, Del returned to school and completed a program as a Human Service Counsellor, determined to make a difference in the lives of young people. Already active in counseling within her church and community, she saw firsthand the challenges youth were facing—the hopelessness, lack of direction, and the missed opportunities. She answered God’s call to step in, stand in the gap, and be a light.
Upon completion of her program, Del returned to Jamaica, where she devoted herself to empowering youth and strengthening families. She believed firmly that Christian mentorship could transform lives, and she dedicated herself to that mission.
In 2015, in response to the Lord’s leading, Youth Mentoring Ministry was birthed. Under her leadership, the Ministry grew into a place of refuge and transformation for youth and families. Del served faithfully as Chairperson and advisor, providing spiritual guidance, strategic direction, and heartfelt support to the Ministry’s work. She was never far removed—she remained hands-on in her day-to-day role as a mentor, walking alongside and guiding children and youth across various educational levels within the community. Her counsel was rooted in wisdom, her presence was steady, and her faith in God was unwavering. She did not just offer advice—she poured out love, encouragement, and Godly guidance to all who came across her path.
Her commitment to creating a nurturing environment extended beyond programs, mentorship and planning. At the Ministry’s Centre in Priory, she designed and cultivated a beautiful oasis—a physical space filled with fruitful, vibrant gardens, gathering areas, a resource centre for studying and homework, and facilities where children, volunteers, and the growing Youth Mentoring Ministry family could find peace, joy, and belonging. It was more than a building or a Centre—it was a reflection of her heart and the love of Christ she carried so deeply.
Del was a woman of great vision, action, and prayer—never seeking recognition, only to do the will of her Father. On July 28, 2025, she went home to be with her Lord and Saviour.
Her legacy is one of transformation, rooted in the truth of Scripture and the love of Jesus Christ. As we honour her life, we do so with great gratitude and hope, knowing that she is now at rest from her labours, her works follow her, (Revelation 14:13), and that she has heard the words we all long to one day hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
To God be the glory for the life of Sister Del Dyer—His faithful daughter, our beloved leader, spiritual mother, mentor and treasured friend. Her life was a beautiful example of service, compassion, and Kingdom purpose. The seeds she has planted will continue to bear fruit in the lives of the many she touched. We are immensely grateful for the impact she has had on us individually, and collectively. We honour her memory, knowing that she fought the good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).
Sister Del, you will forever be in our hearts.🌷
